ahhh, back at Alcatraz...

Maddie at the pumpkin patch!

Here is my sister's dog Maddie at the pumpkin patch. Can anyone guess what she dressed up as this year? Last year she was a pumpkin, but this year she wanted to scare her friends!

So, to answer the question I know you are thinking. Yes, my sister is as crazy as I am...

Back on Dry Land

8 days and 7 nights later, we arrived back on dry land.

After eating 4 lobster tails on Thursday night... yes, I ate 4 lobster tails. You may ask yourself why I would do that. The answer? They delivered them to me, I ate them, enough said. So, after a wonderful dinner, we listened to a great singer in one of the lounges before heading off to bed.

Friday was spent in Newport Rhode Island where we took a tour of the Breakers Mansion and then had lunch on the docks. Dinner was a bit more tame than the night before, but the rest of the evening was fun! We went to the casino where Dad proceeded to win $400 at the blackjack table! Tom, Julie and I lost about $20 each... Then we went dancing up the the Skywalker lounge! We had a great time!

Saturday morning was long and tedious. We had to exit our stateroom by 7am. After breakfast we parked ourselves in the casino area and waited until our color/number combo was called. At that point we left our big ole ship and headed to the taxi stand... Chris met us at my place and we had a great lunch and sent Dad, Tom and Julie off to the airport. Then I slept, for 2 days.

I will post pictures tomorrow!

Docked in Boston

After a night of traveling through the fog, we finally made it to Boston this morning. Thankfully, the weather in Boston was wonderful! We woke up early and had our usual breakfast buffet and then hopped on our tour bus of Boston and Cambridge. We got to see Harvard and most of the Boston area... it was great! Tom and Julie stuck around in Boston for a harbor Cruise while Dad and I decided we needed a drink by the pool. After a quick nap and some internet for me, we plan to meet up for dinner.

Dinner tonight is fomal attire.... ugh, don't know what to wear. But we get lobster tonight! Yeah! Tomorrow we will be in Newport Rhode Island and we plan to wander around by ourselves without the aid of the ships tour guides....

We are having a great time, but I miss the little pooch and my sweet wonderful boyfriend taking care of her! I sure hope they are having fun without me.

This may be my last installment from sea, but when I return I will post some pictures for everyone to see. Bye for now!

Fog in Bar Harbour

Hello from the Boat!

Well, after a wonderful day in Saint John New Brunswick, we set sail for Bar Harbour Maine. We woke up this morning in a sea of fog. We can't see 10 feet in front of our faces. So, we are unable to get off the boat! We have to tender to the land, which means we are docked off shore and have to take little bitty boats to the shore and we can't do that with all this fog. So we are leaving this area and heading to Boston. We will be able to get off in Boston no matter the weather, as we dock on land.

We are having a great time! Last night was the second round of Karaoke and I tore it up! hehehe... I am incognito as a Librarian from Chico California... hehehehe! Dad, Tom and Julie think its funny I won't admit to being a "singer"!! But we have fun at the Karaoke together!

We also saw the Magician/Illusionist show last night. The only word I have... cheese.

We are eating wonderful food and plan our day around the next meal.... So I am sure I have gained weight since I don't fit in my jeans quite as well as I did 5 days ago. jeez.

See you all soon!

High Sea

Cruising is fun!! We are having a great time! Here is a bit of a run down...

We left NYC on Saturday early evening. We had dinner in the Bernini dining room and played some poker in the casino.

Sunday was a very fun day at sea. We lounged around and played cards by the pool and pretty much planned the day based on when we were going to eat next. There was a Karaoke party last night, and it was formal night as well. We had our "prom" pictures takes and then went to the karaoke party. Tom and Julie said I brought the house down.... hehehe!

Today we went into Halifax Nova Scotia. What a beautiful area! We went out to Peggy's cove which is about an hour outside of Halifax. So beautiful. After we got back to the boat, Julie suggested we drink.... so we did. We've been on the deck playing cards, until I escaped to make a blog entry. : )

We are heading to St. John in New Brunswick and I will write again tomorrow!

Meandering through Manhattan

We have had a great two days. Yesterday was spent wandering around Manhattan with Chris. He was the official tour guide and took the group to the Empire State building and then down to Ground Zero. They had lunch in an official New York Deli and loved it.

I finally got off work, and after they all took a short nap, we took the subway down to Little Italy. Well actually we took the subway down to Chinatown and walked over to Little Italy since it has been reduced to just one or two city blocks. We had a great dinner at Caffe Napoli in Little Italy and then jumped in cabs to head home.

This morning Dad, Tom and Julie are on the Circle Line Cruise for a 3 hour tour. Chris is getting some well deserved sleep and is going to meet them when they are done cruising around Manhattan. I am sadly at work... There is so much to do, and not quite enough time!

We get on the big 'ole boat tomorrow! I guess I better pack huh?

Now my sister is coming to town!

I just found out that my sister is coming to NY for the weekend! Well, she is going to be up in Rochester for business and is going to come early and stop in NYC to hang out! I am very excited. I am not sure how we will spend our short time together, but it will be nice to have her here. It is going to be fun to have Dad in NY for a few days and then shortly after the big cruise, to have my sister arrive as well! I sure hope the weather is better this time around. Last time she was in town, there was about 4 feet of snow on the ground and it was COLD! We almost died standing in line at TKTS to get Beauty and the Beast tickets. Seriously, I almost died (or at least my feet almost fell off).

Pup!

This is my sisters dog... isn't she cute? She is bigger now, but her mommy has not sent me any new pictures. My whole family has little dogs. I have this picture sitting on my desk at work along with the rest of the families small dogs!

Pet Evacuation

I have been terribly saddened by the events of hurricane Katrina and am worried about the impending landfall of hurricane Rita. The loss of human life and property and peoples livelihood is just terrible.

But if you know me, my biggest concern has been about the many animals left behind to fend for themselves, and the many humans that refused to evacuate without their little creatures. Here is an interesting and insightful article about this very thing.

Legislation would require pet to be included in evacuations by CNN.com

just over a week

My Dad arrives from California in just over a week. I feel like I have so much to do to prepare, least of which is to pack and get ready for the trip!

So here are some fun facts about the cruise we are going on:
  • We get to go to Halifax and St. John in Canada. I have NEVER been to Canada. (I know, it is crazy but true!)
  • The Ship is 951 feet long!
  • There are 5 pools.. yes, 5 pools. But even more exciting... 9 hot tubs!
  • There is an Ice Cream Sundae bar (I don't know where it is located, but I'll let you know)
  • On the top deck, there is a 9 hole putting green. hehehe
  • It costs approximately $450 million dollars to run the ship.

I know that I should be more environmentally conscious (and had I had the opportunity to choose which Cruise line, I would have picked differently), but I am sooo excited about this trip. It could be because I desperately need a vacation... but I am also just looking forward to spending time with my Dad!

Going on a Cruise

In just two weeks, my Dad and I are going on a vacation! Thanks to his golf buddy and his wife (Tom and Julie), we are booked on a Princess Cruise for the first week of October. I am very excited and can't wait to spend some time with Dad. I will post pictures of the trip when we return.
